ポリスのアルバム「Reggatta de Blanc (邦題：白いレガッタ)」に収録された曲。のちにシングルカットされています。
歌詞は、今やっていることを続けるし続けるんじゃないかな、という感じのもの。
題名の「walking on the moon」について、
スティングは、最初部屋で歩き回っているとき(walking round the room)に曲のリフを思いついたようなのですが、
曲名がそれだとかっこ悪いからもじって「Walking on the Moon」にした、のようなコメントをしています。
そのうえで、付き合っていた彼女の家から帰る際に、「重力」を感じたことも曲に影響を与えているなどのインタビューもあります。
